OPENING VERSE

HOW FAR WOULD YOU BE WILLING TO GO FOR JESUS?...

The Bible shows that the world often regards God's ways as foolish, especially in 1 Corinthians 1:25-27, which states, "the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men," and that God uses "foolish things of the world to confound the wise." This highlights how worldly wisdom can overlook God's plan, exemplified in Jesus's crucifixion—an event the world saw as foolish but which was ultimately God's route to salvation.

  • 1 Corinthians 1:25: "For the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men".
  • 1 Corinthians 1:27: "But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong".
  • 1 Corinthians 3:19: "For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in the sight of God".

Concept:

  • World's Wisdom vs. God's Wisdom: The world, along with its philosophies and power structures, often fails to grasp God's plan, which can appear weak or foolish—such as Jesus's humble birth and crucifixion.
  • God's Strategy: God intentionally employs what humans consider foolish or weak, such as the message of the cross, to achieve salvation, thereby confusing the proud wisdom of the world.
  • Examples: God chose to send Jesus as a vulnerable baby rather than a conquering king, which might seem foolish but was His effective way to save humanity.

INTRODUCTION

Can't Imagine Jesus' Birthday Party without the Gift - It's Revival

Although Scripture does not specify an exact date for Jesus' birth, theological perspectives regard Nisan 1, the Jewish New Year, as a meaningful date due to its prophetic and symbolic significance in the biblical narrative.

Fulfillment of Old Testament Shadows: God's presence filled the newly constructed Tent of Meeting exactly on Nisan 1 (Exodus 40:2, 40:34). The Greek word in John 1:14, which states ''The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us,'' literally translates to ''to tent'' or ''to tabernacle.'' This signifies that, just as God ''tented'' on earth on Nisan 1 in the Old Testament, the incarnation—God assuming human form—also occurred on this significant day.

The True Passover Lamb: Jesus is recognized as the true Passover Lamb (John 1:29; 1 Corinthians 5:7). According to the Law, the Passover lamb must be a male one-year-old, typically born around Spring in Nisan (Exodus 12:5). If Jesus was born on Nisan 1, he would have been exactly one year old at the time of his crucifixion, fulfilling the symbolic requirement for the sacrificial lamb when the Passover lambs were sacrificed.

A New Creation: Nisan 1 signifies the start of the new year in the biblical calendar (Exodus 12:2). Theologically, Jesus' birth symbolizes the start of the "new creation" (2 Corinthians 5:17). Consequently, his birth on the first day of God's new year aligns symbolically with the one who brings renewal to all things.

Alignment with other Feasts: Jesus observed other Jewish feasts on their specific days, such as being crucified during Passover and resurrected on First Fruits. Advocates for the Nisan 1 date suggest that Jesus' birth also coincides with a meaningful, divinely chosen Feast Day, maintaining this pattern of fulfillment.
